Shamiram was born in Tehran as the youngest of 4 children. She started singing and playing instruments since she was 8. She performed for the Iranian national TV at high school and showed interest in different musical genres including Assyrian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Indian.[1]
She married and moved to the United States in 1970, where she settled in Seatle.[1]
Her professional career didn't start until 1978 when she released her first album titled Shamiram after the Assyrian legendary queen Semiramis. Her style was heavily influenced by Greek music. She released three more albums during the 80s and toured Europe and Australia. A compilation album was later released in 1995.[2]
Shamiram moved to Los Angeles during her later years and she passed away on 25 June 2011.[2]
